Image: Cooranbong Public School has been a major part of the Cooranbong township since it opened on 25th November, 1861. It was the first school to be established in the Lake Macquarie area. The school opened with an initial enrolment of 38 pupils and was located within the grounds of the Catholic Church. In 1880, a new school was built on land which is now known as Government Road. The school still stands there today nestled amongst the trees and the gateway to the Watagan Mountains.
